CB - It always mattered to them, certainly since the time of the Crusades and before - it's a great rallying cry to get Muslims who aren't Arabs and live far from Iraq etc. into the cause (say in the Philipines). I just don't think that solve that and everything else is solved, or that it is the most difficult issue in the Israel-Arab/Palestinian dispute. The truth is that the Haram-ash-Sharif as they call it as been under the direct administration of the Muslim Religious Authority - the Waqf - since Israel captured East Jerusalem and most Jews and Israelis are happy with this situation as long as Jews can pray at the Western Wall without hindrance. Most Rabbis forbid Jews to set foot inside the compound. A minority don't and a minority want to rebuild the Temple now. Bin-Laden is also an extreme minority - Orthodox Islam doesn't regard Jews and Christians as pagans etc.
