Americans turning on America is the greatest threat of terrorism. It is the goal of the terrorists to turn the victims into scared rabbits, increasingly passive, ready to surrender, and to agree with them or to strain to "understand them" in exchange for some peace. In the end, there is no peace, only enslavement by the terrorists.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
- Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759.

Of course there is no excuse for murder. But there are causes. These reactions that result in indiscriminate murders are to be condemned every bit as much as those the terrorists carried out this past week. Blanket intolerance of ethnics serves absolutely no purpose but to undermine the very freedoms and guarantees of equality the Republic is founded on. We must look not to promote any such climate that feeds this kind of intolerance. If that cycle of hatred is not broken then surely we are condemned to a spiral of ever greater infamies.
