Courageous or not? It is hard to see how the similar vote that was once cast against declaring war on Japan had any positive effect of any sort. I doubt that this vote will either. Instead of a vote for her constituents or for the american people I think this woman has cast a personal vote, perhaps an egotistical vote. At a time when her nation needs togetherness she has voted for herself, out of her own ego. I am not impressed.

Yes, it certainly took courage to vote her principles, and take a lonely, highly unpopular position.

On the one hand, we need people who are willing to go against the crowd, because sometimes highly unpopular opinions turn out to be correct eventually.

On the other hand, any hint of disunity is going to encourage our enemies, to think that maybe our resolve is not rock-solid. And that will make the coming battles harder.

I would have prefered it, if she voiced her objections, as loudly and in as much detail as she wanted, and then made the vote unanimous. And then continued voicing her objections, if she thinks that needs doing.
