Yea, but erasing decades of peacetime ideology will not happen until we lose millions of more lives. The last time there was a true world threat was 56 years ago. Desert Storm and Vietnam weren't direct tangible threats, you could pop a brew and casually sit on your couch watching tv, chanting go usa. We're not in an episode of star trek sitting in the enterprise representing a 'united federation'. Unfortunately, 56 years of sheltered brainwashing is hard to overcome.
