Have you noticed that for the most part, there has been moderation on all sides (even this thread)? I don't think we are that far apart with respect to the pragmatics. Perhaps my biggest disagreement with people is "how fast" we should act and the levels of imprecision we should allow in our countermeasures. Speed is NOT of the essence here. No one in the world is rationally thinking that we are kowtowing to terrorists. I haven't heard any commentary here or elsewhere that suggests that.
