Who is "seeing something in Afghanistan that is quite at odds with the country as I understand it."?

I don't know anyone who does not know that Afghanistan is an incredibly poor and backward county with significant problems and questionable stability. Perhaps they ought consult their neighbors and allies about the best way for them to proceed. Pakistan has made some decisions based on its own national interest, but they may be of assistance.

The cooperation of the Taliban government in the identification and location of camps and people involved would be invaluable.

No, I don't believe in carpet bombing Afghanistan and I don't believe in acting as an occupying force and engaging in nation building.
