Some years ago it took $200,000 to get a green card
by providing proof one invested that money in US.

Kind of like proving skills and ability to increase
US employment,etc,etc..

I have heard rumours that the threshold has been
increased.

Btw, the green card is an identification to permit
the holder to mainly

- stay in US longer that visa holders
- select his/her employer freely
- apply for US citizenship

Most tourists can stay legally in US, on a tourist visa.
