My brother was at the game, he said it was so eerie. The capacity crowd was dead silent for 60 seconds. This was a critical world cup qualifying match and Iranians are very fanatical about soccer, that is why any kind of silence is strange and unheard of in a soccer match. He also said many in the crowd were wearing a black armband which in Iran symbolizes grief.
