The security bureaucracies are not going to go away. They are going to get stronger. I never wondered whether Latin Americans were anti-US after the Berlin Wall came down. I always thought it was motivated by envy. We big, loud, arrogant Norteamericanos have been tub-thumping for democracy and free trade for a couple of hundred years, and looking down our nose at you guys, with your Italian suits and French cigarettes and narrow ties. Communism offered you the chance to feel smarter than us. Communists were on the side of history, and us big ugly Americans were going to be taken out and shot, and good riddance.;^)
