Nick:

Civil war in Pakistan is a possibility according to certain quarters. The pakistani military may not be able to contain the masses. America has to promise a worthy package of debt forgiveness and aid in order to assuage the passions of the people. The pakistani president has already put in a request for such a package in exchange for services expected to be rendered. Pakistan has until now provided both moral and material support to the Taliban Govt. If Taliban is not bottled up in Afghanistan and pakistan, the Taliban sympathizers will be a source of civil unrest in Pakistan and that is not good for India or US and of course for pakistan itself. The Saudi Arabia and UAE will be unwilling partners. It is hoped that SA remembers America's help during the desert storm.
Since this will be a prolonged undertaking, US can count only on India and UK and others might lose interest.
It is hoped that the nuclear command structure is in place, the nuclear installations are secured and no simians play with the buttons in pakistan.
