NEW YORK (CP) -- New details are emerging about a book deal Bob Dylan said earlier this month that he'd signed with Simon & Schuster.

Inside.com reports that an internal e-mail from Simon & Schuster publisher David Rosenthal speaks of a "long-standing relationship" between Dylan and Rosenthal that led to the deal for a series of memoirs comprising at least three and as many as five volumes. The publisher has also made a deal for Dylan's complete song lyrics.

The terms of the deal have not been released, but Inside.com reports that Dylan's paycheque is believed to be in the millions.

Each book of memoirs will be "relatively short (perhaps 224 book pages)," says the e-mail, and will focus on the singer's early career.

"The material is highly anecdotal, filled with names and places, and offers an amazing portrait of the music scene in New York in the coffeehouse era. While the structure is mainly impressionistic, the text proper is relatively traditional," the e-mail says.

Rosenthal declined to confirm the contents of the e-mail.

A first draft of the first volume is expected within the next six months.

Dylan, who turned 60 this year and recently released his 43rd album, wrote an autobiography in 1970 called Self Portrait; he also wrote a novel in 1971 called Tarantula. (More on Bob Dylan)
