I guess in some people's minds shooting down an airliner with U.S. citizens aboard is not much different than the "Band of Brothers" taking a World War II town. In each instance, X number of good people will die for the cause, and that's a given. I'm not criticizing the call to take down the aircraft had it headed from southwestern Pennsylvania in the direction of Washington, D.C., given what had happened. You are correct in assigning maximum weight to the moral decision to take the plane down if necessary. All these moral dilemmas are new ... outside the box.

Circling in the back of my mind is this question: If 30 Middle Eastern terrorists could inflict this much damage on the United States with a game plan that was so simple but yet so effective, what damage could 1.3 billion Chinese do to this country if we ever went to war with them?
