Not Just Another Monday
By:Adam Martin
Stocks plummetted in early trading with the DJIA giving up more than 600 points at its lowest levels, but both indexes are off of the lows of the session. Many companies are aggressively buying back their own stock in an effort to shore up stock prices and thereby the stock market and economy. Expectations are for some early selling, and certain sectors directly affected by Tuesday's tragedy such as airlines and insurance are expected to fall off today. A half point interest rate cut by the Fed, as with previous cuts, seems to have had little effect on stocks, but there is speculation that a recovery could take place later in the session, as the very fact that Wall Street is open for business so soon after so much human and infrastructure loss is bringing a sense of pride and confidence to the trading floor, and to the nation.

Hi Harry,

IMHO.... storage or more specifically SAN's will get lot of investment money in the coming quarters. I think people would be surprised to see the strength in some of the tech stocks in early 2002 and esp. in feb/april time frame. An event like this will wake up many companies as most don't have a very good recovery plan in place. Added liquidity to the system should help lot of companies.

Just imagine the effect on the market if they capture OBL within the next few days..... I think we will see most of the losses disappear just like it never happened.

Good luck for your trip if you decide to start next week. I think you will have an easier time with lighter traffic.

Later,

Suresh
