We probably stopped short out of fear of creating martyrs. Now we have to fight anyone who would have mourned and been energized by the death of these evil ones anyway. Looking back it was a terrible mistake. No one doubts we could have marched on Baghdad and conquered it, either, we were constrained by coalition politics and the fear that the public would not put up with a long term occupation.
