>>"Patriotic" Rally that isn't based on a change of trend or fundamentals... <<

IMO, the fundamentals have changed. Government starting deficit spending, world wide interest rate cuts, real possibility of capital gains tax cuts etc....

Oh, c'mon SusieQ - give me a break. I am not talking a one day rally (who would think there would be a rally today? no one I know) or suckering investors into anything. I am not saying buy anything .. I am just saying that I think it would have been "patriotic" and "supportive" to not short for one day. You can interpret that however you wish ... I could care less if you trade, buy or don't. But a one day moratorium on short selling is what I feel to be morally right. At least I feel "dirty" making money off the backs of our dead. Obviously, you feel money is money and you don't care how you make it.

But then, you are right - let's just all short and say "hooray" to the terrorists, after all, it's your kind of attitude that makes us all losers and them winners. And if I sound mad maybe it's because I had friends who worked at or near the Trade Center ... and maybe I feel this a little personally. Or maybe it's just that I am proud of my country and would like to be proud of all the threadsters. I think you are out of line with Susan and your response to me.

No one told you not to short -- you can and will do whatever you want. But your reaction to our expressing what we believe to be our "moral" and "ethical" beliefs is a little too strong. Feeling a little defensive, are you.

If you want to short, I suggest (like another poster mentioned) you keep it to yourself for the day. If you wish to do something that even many of our government leaders have suggested would be anti-American on a day like today, then do it quietly. For one day.

Unlike some on this thread and others I presume, I covered all shorts at the open this morning and wrote a check to the Red Cross for the balance change since last Tuesday's close ....

Just returned from the post office ..... yes, I have less money than I could have had ...

I think it's a shame people feel justified in pursuing EVERY opportunity presented for their own financial gain ...

There are opportunities every single day .... not every one of them needs to be pursued. I will not short for the remainder of the week. If it means I don't trade, that's fine with me.

To all who shorted today, I hope you spend your gains well ..... and remember the faces of the innocent who died for those goods you purchase every time you use them !

Peace .... JB
