Dave, I hate to admit it but you got me re-thinking the middle east issue. You have raised a bunch of good points.

Maybe communism is not the big evil; at least these countries are more stable and don't allow groups to get together and run terrorism camps. I would prefer that over democratically elected psychos. At least the former Soviet Union and China have a process to nominate educated, intelligent people to the position of president. Not putting down democracy but just noting that in some countries it is probably not the most appropriate system of government.--some middle east countries are probably good candidates.

btw--Still don't understand your anti-MSFT views. If MSFT did not control Windows, it would be a big loss to America. You can bet there would have been a standard but the controls may have rested in another country. That would threaten America's dominance in the computer industry. I still can't believe there are just so many stupid politicians who could see this---or maybe they are finally coming around.
