Under the worst-case scenario I know of - a Great Bear similar to the 75%-90% declines of 1929 or 1857 - the market fell 45%, rallied 50%, and then dropped much lower. Interestingly, that also fits the 1973-1975 pattern, minus the much happier ending. That would translate to 6500 on the Dow, followed by a rally back to 9750 - and then Dow 3000.
