the old silk road, which has now become the new heroin trade road, is one of the major civilizational fault lines on the planet...before the Soviet Union collapsed of its own accord i always suspected that its southern provinces would become a major source of trouble eventually.
note that all the wars since the fall of the Soviet bloc have in fact been cultural wars...if there is one good thing that came out of the tragedy it is that the illusion that the world has somehow become a safer place since the dissolution of the Soviet bloc has finally been shattered. the opposite is true...
