I agree with you to some extent. As a permanent resident, the three things I can not do that a citizen can do are: take certain sensitive jobs, vote and run for an elected office. None of these I was interested in, which is why I didn't bother to become a citizen. Obviously, there is another corner I haven't analyzed.

However, treating "aliens" (gosh, I hate that term) differently from others may lead to a carte blanche on ill-treatment. Already, believe it or not, many people of color can feel the difference in treatment.
