Pakistan was put in a pretty tight spot....who do you want for your enemy....Afghanistan or the U.S. They probably saw an opportunity to get financial help from the U.S. and I am guessing that the Pakistani government does see Bin Laden and the Taleban as threats to their sovereignty. They likely see the U.S. as a convenient ally and probably an undesirable enemy.

I doubt that the Pakistan government would have geeked so quickly, especially with deploying troops, if relations with Afghanistan were that good to start with.
