When companies I have worked for said EEO and Affirmative Action were "the new order", I did my best to find and hire qualified people, mostly engineers because that's what I managed, from both genders and from the ethnic groups that were underpopulated in silicon valley and the companies I worked for. And I did. That, by the way, can get to reverse discrimination in a big hurry, and I know managers that were highly coerced to hire non-qualified people to meet quotas. Still, I found that if you budgeted your time, and then put the time into it, you could find and hire qualified people from just about any group. I've been just skimming the threads lately, but haven't seen any blatant racism. Still, I think the pendulum has swung too far, WRT political correctness. I mean, I want FBI, CIA, police people, whoever, doing whatever it takes to rapidly drill down on terrorism leads. If that means, using my example, referring to a suspect as "Italian looking", instead of saying "looked to be swarthy; curly hair; nose like, well, you know, a Roman nose"...by that time the suspect is two counties away. Hard to express this, but, bottom line, we cannot afford to pussyfoot around when we are under attack, and at war, as we are. So, there's been some talk of security at other international airports. In Japan, they have a guy at bus stops, where you come and go from the airport, load or unload your bags, etc. He looks like he's (probably is) trained in many of the martial arts and wears a military uniform. He doesn't have a gun that you can see, but he has a wooden stick, about the length of a baseball bat and maybe 1 1/2" in diameter. You quickly get the feeling that if you did so much as look at him cross-eyed, it might be the last thing you do. Time for this country to get tough in a lot of ways. Tony
