There is a very understandable fear in this country, The media and the government have fueled the sense that there is a terrorist under every rock. I would like to repost (very slightly edited) what I wrote last Friday. I think that it is very important that people have a realistic perspective while some very important decision are being made in our behalf. But the terrorist mass hysteria is still in full force, I see. For the heck of it, lets ask ourselves some questions: -How many serious terrorist acts have taken place on US soil in the last 10 years? -Has international terrorist activity increased or decreased over the last 10 years? -How long did it take bin Laden to plan this event? To train the pilots? How much did it cost? How many people have the funds, the human resources, the hate, the intelligence to duplicate the act? -Outside of the WTC horror, how many people do you know that have been victims of terrorism; or that know other people that have been victims of terrorism? -Of all the 100's of buildings that have been evacuated since the event, how many bombs were found? -How many completely false reports have you heard stated as facts in the media this week? -Are you more likely to get killed by an armed robber than a terrorist? A traffic accident? A hurricane? A heart attack? The current mass hysteria, fed by media and government propaganda, has finally eclipsed the terrorist hysteria that took place during the Gulf War. Remember that paranoia, remember that NOTHING happened. bin Laden is one hell of of a terrorist, he has you afraid of your shadow, begging to sacrifice your way of life for protection. The poor folks at the WTC and the Pentagon are his method, you are his REAL victim. As well as everyone else that buys into the hysteria. It looks like he won the war as well as the battle. Could there be another terrorist attack, of course there could. But if you check with the actuaries at the insurance companies, I'll bet that they will sell you terrorist life insurance very very cheap. They know that your odds of dying from a terrorist attack, compared to any other reason, are more than 100 million to 1. So step back, take a deep breath, and think about the probabilities. And then think about the changes that are about to take place in this country, and their effect on personal freedom, and their effect on the economy. And while you are at it, think about who gains power and who loses power as a result of the hysteria. John
