No argument from me....

In fact "If oil is obsolete", as you say, then one has to move away from a natural resource driven economy. One must move up the development ladder.

An ancillary benefit for the world.

Wow, an energy independent house. Do you drive an energy independent car made of steel from an energy independent plant?

The food you eat is grown on energy independent farms and transported to someplace with energy independent technology so you can go and buy it in your energy independent car.

Do your post to the internet with an energy independent computer over an energy independent communications system?

Are all the secret backroom deal created in your energy independent mind?

A balanced national consensus on energy policy was proposed by our President. If you don't understand that then you simply lack a balanced state of mind. But I suggest going to a goal of 90% electricity generation by nuclear with oil and natural gas as a backup in case of emergency. Over time I would eliminate coal for the production of electricity. Coal use for manufacture could continue. Also coal could be used in the creation of synthetic fuels.

Consevation is fine. But there are real laws of diminishing returns and one must have some common sense. I've designed fabricated and installed active and passive solar heating. I've converted and installed high efficiency pulse combustion gas furnaces in place of oil fired systems. I installed super-insulation and high efficiency windows. This has all been done to my houses over 25 years.

If you wish to read up on the energy technology topics, I have put together a link page on various topics.
