I wouldn't take this too serious. You have to discount that a) it comes from Frank Völkel (who loves to trash AMD) and that b) it is very unrealistic that you completely remove the heatsink while running the PC. A more realistic scenario would be a failing fan. In this case an Athlon motherboard with thermal management would just shut down. Even without thermal management the CPU would gradually overheat and lock the PC thus saving the CPU. But I admit that he has a point that if you don't mount your heatsink properly you can easily destroy your AMD CPU.

PS: I hate to admit it but it's somewhat entertaining to see the CPUs burn... ;-)

Ten,

I thought that article was great. Next time I run a computer without a heatsink I'll make just and have the temperature guage and a fire extinguisher handy.

I didn't know heat stinks fell off so often. <G>
