No offense, Joe, but you thought of all the details by yourself?

Personally, I prefer to leave armchair commanding to PC games like Sid Meier's Civilization. ;-) Boy, if only dealing with real-world terrorism were as easy as defeating the A.I. in those games, the free world would have nothing to fear.

Jozef,

You, like most Americans, logic and reasoning is way off. Do you honestly believe that we can march around in Afghanistan and take over the country? The former Soviet Union tried..... for 10 YEARS.

Your plan looks alot like the operation plan to Desert Storm. Bomb them alot, then send in ground forces. How do you bomb a society that has nothing to begin with? No infrastructure, etc. They are already living in the Stone Age.

When the day comes for a ground invasion, be prepared for many days of light casualties. Then, heavy casualties one day. And the situation repeats itself.

I ask you how question: How do you defeat an adversary that is more than willing to lose his/her life for the defense of their beliefs?

Joe,

Okay, let's hit rewind here and hit a few high points first.

I would love nothing better than to believe that America has the power to eliminate the Taliban. That regime is a blight on their country, a blight on the world, and even a blight on their religion. However, if you envision something a la Desert Storm, it's not going to work. I can't remember which general said it, but Afghanistan "sucks as a target." The terrain is rough, the infrastructure is nonexistent. Picture the U.S. army slogging through Northern Italy in World War II... only worse... I do agree that there should be a military response to bin Laden and the Taliban, but airstrikes and a ground assault aren't going to do much good. These people have been at war for 22 years. I picture a more covert series of operations over a longer period of time.

You, however, didn't answer my final questions: Is collateral damage acceptable? Is it okay to take out a few innocents so long as we nail those responsible????
