heinz - <<today... bothersome chore... then rally>>

I'm with you. Sounds like hope, not fear.

Still no where near The Bottom imho... and unlikely to know we are there until we find that we've climbed out a bit and aren't as scared as days before of finding ourselves lower.

Fear. Not the "Oh dear, I might miss the bottom" kind of fear.

John.

<O'Neill promises new highs on Dow> Is this guy our Hoover (or the Treasury sec. equivalent) or what? What a complete imbecile he's turned out to be, including serious diplomatic/political faux pas(es) not knowing when to keep mouth SHUT...

With Japan, Argentina, potential derivatives melt-down, and Bin Laden out there (ALL of which could occur), a bounce here has no long-term chance (although I'm likely going to try to play it...think we're close)..

<<i noticed that selected sectors did well today (in a display of faulty logic, even some RE related stocks were sought after), and that in itself is suspicious.>>

Yep, and adv/decliners were hardly at capitulation levels either, volume made only a marginal new high as well:

Possibly a bounce or a hitch of some sort tomorrow or even into expiration then more down, I'd expect. (BTW, warnings continue relentlessly...AXP tonight).
