One overlooked driver could be the large number of buy backs. Headlines such as "Oracle to "aggressively" buy back company stock" in the next few weeks can only put a solid floor at current price levels.

A lot of economic data got ruined this past week and I view it as a good thing. The markets were jumping from one piece of data to the next with hardly a moment for reflection on what it all meant. The kaleidoscope of data was distorting the market.

Regards, Jerome

Goldman Sacks CEO just said "we are about to enter into a big bull market". "Short term is uncertain, but we are way oversold".

Yet that somewhat contradicts Goldman's own megaguru, Abby Joseph Cohen, who just yesterday grudgingly admitted that the S&P would end the year much lower than her previous estimates (although, at 1250, still much higher than where it is now).

Folks,
The only thing stopping a giant resurgence in the american economy is a war that does not go well. I would think that all the money not spent on travel over the next 4 months will be spent on trips closer to home and on consumer items--cell phones, pc's, dvds etc. Most stock analysts dont understand the national psyche of America. The guy from Goldman does. Also it will take years before all the liquidity the Fed has put out there is sopped up. Greenspan will not make the same mistake twice and the price of all this will be a bit of inflation down the road. The markets should be good and tech should lead the way again. Businesses will start to invest again in infrasructure after a couple of slow months. The build in NY will also replace 50k pcs, telco equip, computer hardware and of course chips are part of it all. I would be interested in all your picks on indy stocks--tech and non-tech that should benefit. mike
