I think this has been happening this past week. IMHO (and I've been known I have some "interesting" ones) the winner of this conflict (other than Israel of course) is Pakistan. Without its help we simply can not WIN, actually we don't even have a shot unless we 'll cut our own throats by sending our troops in the Afgani graveyard. Folks, I got some time right now, my son finally fell asleep and I will explain you MY THEORY (heck, it's mine and you can't have it, before I hear a better one that makes sense to me I 'll keep it, so back off<g>.
There has been a steady barrage on talking up Osama in the US media for a while now. We must all remember that we like to paint our enemies like evil, Hitlers, etc (even though they were our friends earlier but we won't go there for now). Examples abound from Noriega, to Qaddafi, to Saddam, to Milosevich and now good old lunatic Osama. I also believe that there has been an (intentional?) relaxation on the measures of getting to him (remember we need evil to go to war). I find it very curious that as soon as this happened Osama was plastered all over the media and our government (which is known not to move too fast on apprehending and investigating suspects, unless they are ethnic Chinese Wen Ho Lee<g> or spicy ones like Monica, etc.) pretty much concluded that it was Osama, we will smoke him (them? good luck) out of their holes (very catchy) and we wil bring him to justice dead or alive (tough, we like tough here, tough is good for the polls too!).
So, you ask me, if it was not Osama, who? Well, I think it is Pakistan's ISI agency in coordination with Osama's sleeper cells who likely do not even have contact with this guy anymore. Taliban would not be in existence without ISI's help (and CIA's help but we won't go there). ISI is a very good intelligence agency (number 1 in the world is Israel's Mossad of course). I do not believe for one bit that Osama planned and carried this act alone without the help of an intelligence agency. And I think ISI is behind it. Of course, like all good intelligence agencies they cover their tracks well and this will never be found out (don't ask me who killed John Kennedy now<g.). ISI created and set up the Taliban to serve their own purposes to expand their sphere of influence in Afganistan, appease some of the strong Islamic supporters within Pakistan (hey, you got to give them something, they are starving, if they have no outlet they may well rise and kick the government dudes out, kind of like pacifying them), and likely set them up for something that will SAVE the country. After the attack, and after convicting the Taliban and Osama, WIN will not be delivered until we get Osama's head (and likely a few others--of course, this has nothing to do with defeating terrorism but who gives a crap about that right now, Georgie is totally desperate to deliver VICTORY to us). VICTORY is Osama and a few others dressed in robes and in shackles on the front page of New York Times with Bush's photo next to them and the title "I promised you I will smoke them out of their holes, I kept my promise" (unlike his daddy<g>). Polls soar, we go into a frenzy here (until the next terrorist attack months or years later, we ll deal with that later). Now, can Musharraf deliver VICTORY to Georgie? I don't know, but if he and ISI can not deliver nobody can. We need the intelligence info only ISI can provide, we need air space and likely bases in Pakistan to go "WIN" this war. If there is a chance Musharraf can deliver the WIN (outlined above, it has nothing to do with defeating terrorism, terrorism is here to stay I am afraid, it has always been around the world, now it reached us here and I think it's staying and we'll just have to live with it) I hope (for our sake) that Georgie pays Musharraf for this favor. And, trust me on this one, Musharraf can name his price and we can deliver it. There has always been talk of forgiving $30 billion in debt (nice chunk of change), there will new opportunities with IMF and World bank financing, military aid, rent for the air space and bases, on and on and on. Will the Taliban supporters like it? Hell NO! Will they be strong enough to topple him (they will sure try!). Maybe but I don't think so. Musharraf (another fine freedom loving democrat) is a General and will do whatever it's necessary to pacify the crowd (suppress the hell out of them) and I think he can win (it will likely involve cutting the throats of the ISI officials who are true friends of the Taliban, easy task). And Musharraf can stall (after feasting on all the prizes) and play difficult to get and tell Georgie "Even after all the gifts you gave me I still think my people will kick my ass and hang me in the local square and Georgie, look, if that happens there is absolutely no way for you to get to Osama, if you think I am asking for a lot, then you will need the Russians and their demands will make mine look like peanuts...and Georgie, CAN YOU IMAGINE, if my people hang me, they may get their hands on our nuclear bombs and hand deliver them to Osama....Georgie visibly shaken, "okay, okay. WHAT DO YOU WANT MAN? YOU ARE SCARING THE CRAP OUT OF ME?" And Musharraf says: "Kashmir" Georgie goes "Well India, you know, ..." Musharraf about to do his "nuclear bomb delivered to Osama routine" and Georgie goes OKAY, OKAY. We 'll force India somehow to deal you Kashmir,....So, here is Musharraf who can save his ass, kickstart a pitiful economy, get loads of arms and loans, and give his people the ultimate prize Kashmir (which will especially make the Taliban supporters still go out and protest, but not go out to hang Musharraf in the local square).
Far fetched? I don't think so. Possible? Sure, everything is possible after last Tuesday. In international diplomacy, anything is possible when you are needed so badly, especially to us!
So, regardless, we 'll need some bases in the Pakistan Afganistan border regardless. They of course will be isolated from the pakistani masses and protected by Musharraf's henchmen and ISI. We'll be blasting some goats in Afgan mountains, have the CIA people dress them in robes, and beam back images with titles like: "Four more terrorists met justice, we are winning the war, we told you it's a long war, it will take time...blah blah blah" This will be happening right after Georgie's poll numbers take a dip. Hopefully we'll let the Pakistani soldiers do the attacking for us. I just hope the maddness we are in, I just hope we do not see American soldiers in Afganistan, it aint' no dessert, they 'll pick us off and will be loads of bodybags. Based on our conduct of the Kosovo war and extreme distaste of casualties I don't think we'll go in (I hope so anyway). We'll lose a few and we'll send them home with titles "Heroes died fighting terrorism" when they probably had a brawl after getting drunk during the Superbowl or something <g>. So, you are saying, when do we WIN? The answer right before the next Presidential election (hey, they told us it will be a long war) we ''ll have Osama and George in the White House for four more years. Of course terrorism will not stop, there always was, is and will be terrorism. YOu know it's like the war on drugs, crime and all that stuff.
Okay, if you have read so far, sit down for the grand finale. But at least we get Osama which will reduce terrorism, right? Maybe. I tell you this is not a relevant question. We will not go there to beat terrorism, we will go there for our economic interests in the vast oil and gas fields north of Afganistan. I mean, unfortunately for the intellect level of our country, lots of people believe we went to the Gulf to save Kuwait and we went to the Balkans to stop the Serbs's ethnic cleansing (good one!). Wake up everybody, to keep the gazillions of our SUVs humming along and the oil companies deep pockets (what the hell did you think all these campaign contributions were for?) we need more oil and gas, they are in the Caspian sea and all those kistan countries in the south end of the former Soviet Union. We need to get there, and who knows Pakistan may even be rewarded with a pipeline going through it!
Unfortunately, lots of innocents will die (they always do), and if we lose the PR war (nothing like one of our bombs bombing a school or something like that....I mean not how we see it, hey our leaders told us we got to WIN, besides, it's just collateral damage), how all the poor Muslims in the Middle East and Pakistan see it? There could be a backlash and hang all of the fat kings/sheiks/generals we support there and make a mad million man suicide march on our bases in Saudi Arabia? Imagine that, tryly scary, we lose all the men there and we lose control of the oil.
thank you for reading, I hope it was educational and entertaining (it sure was for me, entertaining I mean<g>.
I stand behind my ISI connection and the real reason we are going there (oil and gas).
