Hi Kastel, I expect you're wasting your breath trying to explain that you can talk about religions as ideas without intending to shove any particular religion down other people's throats.

That's been one of the interesting things I learned on SI - some people just hate the idea of religion so much it sends them into a tizzy when other people talk about it. The ones who've been able to explain their reaction to me have tended to trace it back to a childhood where adults did try to shove religion down their throat.

People who pride themselves on their knowledge of science start ranting about how the Pope treated Galileo and about the Spanish Inquisition and about Aztecs and so forth. It's just another set of hot buttons.

People who don't know they have hot buttons can't talk rationally about them.

Peace.

I thinks that's CB's point about Christianity, at least from the good news for modern man point of view, being a happier religion, no real fire and brimstone like the Old Testament and Koran.

These statements are just hard for me to believe given the historical (and recent and current) record of the believers in Christianity. Sure there may be some nice Anglicans or whatever somewhere who believe in multiculturalism or whatever and think hell is some symbolic notion.

Who were the people who gunned down 7000 Muslim men in one day at Srebenica? Just for a recent case.
