I couldn't get to the message you posted, but you are right. I am not in favor of arming the Afghans to kill each other. There is no honor in getting others to do our dirty work for us.

I have been trying to point out two things over the past week:

The first is that human nature is too complex to be calculated. All the supports of one faction against the other and government toplings have always come back to bite us. The best course of action is stay out of other people's business and keep their governments responsible for their actions.

The second point I've been trying to make is that the best weapon against hatred and anger is compassion and education. Actions do not happen in vacume. You see something done, and react to it based on your perception. The only lasting solution is to address the roots of those emotions.

Now I am willing to go so far as to say some people are so consumed by hate and anger, that there may be no stopping them. But that would be too few. Others are just falling victim to them for legitimate reasons. So if you remove the hate mongers and fix the roots of the problem, then you have a lasting solution.

PS I have read the works of several military theorists from ancient times to Napoleon and modern contemporaries. Not a single one of them has been a trigger happy paranoid. The more war one sees, the more one hates it.
