Scott, you're getting soft.
I don't even get a "despicable" this time?
Your buddies here may disown you ...

I am suggesting that AF1 had enough fuel to stay aloft until
it reached Andrews AFB. And that the President received,
and heeded, bad advice when Cheney sent AF1 to Nebraska.
The President was needed in the nation's Capitol, ASAP.

While Cheney and Powell clearly had things under control
in the bunker under the WH, the President's job has a
greater dimension to it, something that Kennedy embodied,
something that Reagan understood in his bones, and Clinton
strived for (partisan sniping on this board aside):
"I believe it is the job of the President to *lead*,
to project confidence and power in the midst of crisis"

Ok. That's your opinion. I'll stand by this statement.

You lose your bet. I'll disagree (vehemently) with any
number of his policies, but I fully expected him to go to
Washington directly (or at least from Barksdale). And I
have to believe that was his first instinct - it comes
with Office - and that his people let him (and our country)
down. President Bush should have overruled them.
