If you believe that you are brainwashed. If they want to ramp up production, they need money or credit. To get that money, they must sell more shares or borrow money. And the share price definitely affects both.

You can't use long-run equilibrium and efficient allocation of capital arguments to justify short-term looting. After all, many shorts profess their explicit goal is to drive the company into bankruptcy, and conspire to reach this goal for personal gain.
