SR: good ideas, and yes, I saw the former EL AL(Israeli Airlines) chief of security interview, and this airline had installed beefed-up cockpit doors some time ago, in addition to thier Cadillac-level terminal screening procedures.
Certainly Boeing/Airbus can build a better door, maybe include a fish eye video cam of the area outside the cockpit, whatever.
Transponder failsafe, doors, cameras; we are not talking major expenditures here, folks. I say corporate airline greed and government agencies influenced by politics/lobbying has to stop here and now, as it prevents even modest safety measures.
No money for the airlines until they put 1000 A+P mechanics to work on our commercial fleet to make the necessary aircraft modifications.
You want to be patriotic, call/write your congressperson and tell them no money for airlines without the changes.
James
Edit: a lot of the commercial jets are grounded for lack of passengers/reduced flight schedules anyway, right? So let's start the retrofits/security upgrades now
