Everything is relative. Compared to what's out there America is as good as it gets. Wasn't it Muslims that we were trying to help in Yugoslavia? Yes, it was...

Thanks Jill, I would like to continue this dialouge but the wife just got home and is kicking my butt off the computer. I have a full day ahead.

These ideas deserve thought, thought takes time, and I'm out of time.

I'll get back with you to perhaps dispel your notions of my niavete'

Hi Jill, I'm pressed for time again but wanted to address this issue with you. I think an answer lies in the question, "What are we asking Hussein to do in order for us to lift sanctions?"

I'm not a foreign affairs wonk so forgive me if I don't have every fact in order, I'll retract what isn't true. But I believe the UN wants something like the following;
1. Let UN inspection teams come in and inspect suspected nuclear and biological production sites.
2. Stop funding $$ to terror groups (see New York).
3. Wire every home in Iraq for cable.<gg>

The reason there is an embargo in place is because Hussein will not stop funding terror groups or developing bio/nukes. Period. (He's said to be considering the cable)But this is not why children are starving. The children are starving because the revenue from the oil we allow him to export and the aid that enters the country does not reach the poor because he don't friggin give it too em. You don't see him starving, do ya? Did you see his lush palaces on your travels? How does that happen in a country who's children are starving? Do you think the Republican guard is starving or eating steak?

Venezuaela sells oil. You don't see us setting up an embargo and starving them out for a few nickels a barrel.

We helped create Hussein & Bin laden, and helped train them. We did so in order to maintain some control over oil and gas in that area.
We are not as innocent as you believe.

Now here is where it gets sticky, but let me again ask a simple question, "Have you ever had someone you thought was a friend betray you? This business of feeding arms and munitions stinks but in each of those cases the devil we were funding was seen as the lesser devil. I believe our disagreement on this would, after some lenghty discussion, boil down to a matter of small degrees.

On the other hand--I agree--relatively speaking--we are probably the best place in the world to live. I love America. But I try to have no illusions.

I know you do, as do I.

Be well my friend.
