>If you are aware of a country that has expanded more $$ and human life in the defense of other people's freedom, use the fingers God gave you and type out their name.

I agree with your statement in general. But, the fact remains, our foreign policy conduct (especially in the Middle East) has been quite oppressive against all the Muslim Arabs, which, IMHO, I believe is the root cause of terrorism. If we don't make a dent on that, do you really believe we'll smoke Osama out of his hole and the problem will go away? I am afraid not, we will make the problem worse. So, deep down, it's not about terrorism, it's about preserving our way of life and our freedom to keep our SUVs humming along. It's all about money...Please talk to an Arab anywhere and politely ask them what our foreign policy has done for THEIR freedom...You'll be surprised at the answers. Now for my fingers, I got to save them I am heading to a soccer game right now, I am a ref (which explains I can take any abuse people throw at me for my views, frankly I have heard it all from soccer moms<g>)

See ya all later

"For all it's warts, the United States of America is the greatest force for good ..."

True. The screw-up is the arrogance and secrecy of our old-timers getting involved over there thinking we can irritate the Ruskies, and the military/industrial tendencies to expand. Imagine if we'd just let them duke it out, even if they prevailed temporarily, their break-up would have been even faster and our terrorism problems much less, at least for now.

This is more than 20/20 hindsight. We can maybe finally learn to be scrupulous about our intel services, and not have such things as "off the shelf, independent" operations by entrepreneurs covering themselves with misguided or criminal "patriotism" claims.

This requires the blessing of God-given daylight, accountability and responsibility, which is the toughest fight for intel services, since they have the sleazy ease for covering things up or distorting under various guises.
