I now see Muslim clerics denouncing this, although I do not have the power to gauge their sincerity. I would also note that these clerics lose no propaganda opportunity to defame Israel and that, as far as I have seen, none of the WTC and Pentagon terrorists was a Palestinian. Nor is the leader, bin Laden, acting out of frustration for being downtrodden and oppressed: he has a $300 million fortune. I should also note that the Palestinians are heavily armed with 70,000 rifles given to them by who?--Israel!!!!!! Why don't these clerics ever mention that whenever an Arab state has actually recognized Israel's right to exist, Israel has returned strategic land, and had peace (viz. Egypt and Jordan). Israel also withdrew from Lebanon after secret security negotiations with Lebanon and Syria. The Palestinians are being tormented by Arafat who, for personal reasons, refuses seriously to discuss peace in the same manner as the late Anwar el-Sadat and King Hussein of Jordan. Instead, he purposely creates young martyrs by placing them among armed gunmen. To give him the benefit of the doubt, he may actually believe he is sending these children to Paradise. Arafat may rhyme with Sadat, but there the resemblance ends.

In December 2000, the Masood brothers did a life-size rehearsal for the hijacking part of the Sept 11 attacks and the CIA was clueless... Godammit! I bet you Tenet's Mossad buddies told him that there was nothing, really nothing, to worry about --ROFL! TENET: YOU ARE FIRED!

CHENEY: PACK YOUR BAGS! In order to safeguard the continuity of the US Executive, from now on, you'll stay in Anchorage (Alaska). There's a military base out there with all the necessary amenities for a Vice President.

Analysis: Who are the hijackers?

Afghanistan's rulers are hostile to the outside world

By BBC News Online's Martin Asser

Opposition hero

The hijackers are reported to have demanded the release of Ismail Khan, a hero of the opposition, who was captured by the Taleban in 1997.

Indeed, one feature missing from the chaos of the Afghan wars had, until today, been airline hijacking.

But the opposition, called the northern alliance, has disassociated itself from the hijacking, calling it an act of terrorism against innocent people.

The alliance supports former president Burhanuddin Rabbani who was driven from the capital Kabul by the Taleban in September 1996 and now controls only about 10% of Afghanistan.

The alliance blames the Taleban for allowing the "presence and active involvement of terrorist networks" for creating a climate of terror in Afghanistan, citing in particular Osama Bin Laden, the Saudi militant who, at least in Washington's eyes, is the world's most dangerous terrorist.

The Taleban itself has also condemned the hijackers as terrorists and says it will not negotiate with them or accept any of their demands.

A statement said the Taleban believed the hijackers were "closely connected" to the main opposition commander, Ahmed Shah Masoud.
