Japan bankrupted their government surplus (turning it into a deficit) trying to fight the mal-investment killer wave...

I s'pose the U.S. equivelent are Yankees watching their stocks go to 0, and equity-mortgaging their houses to the hilt...

We are probably heading for similar results to Japan too...

Difference being, they still have a wealth of private savings, whereas we will have ??? in a few years..

Saving grace may be Americans ability to look and mirror and say, "we blew it, and we need to change"....that, and, hopefully, a smaller banking problem, although the derivatives bomb scares the crap out of me...
