RE:"My second point was that there are people who seem to denigrate "PC" because they are not confortable with not being able to express "freely", in certain social situations, certain attitudes that people connected to Political Correctness seem to discourage"

Of course some might say that those who expose PC have trouble expressing how it really is. IMHO, it's a lot of candy coating...it also allows people to take advantage of us and our system...

My main point was to suggest that the use of Political Correctness occurrs only in highly developed nations/civilizations with well defined core values - and that we are the only nation on earth that fits that profile.

We are the only highly developed nation on earth with well defined core values????

And we wonder why people hate Americans....

Dear Mary:

My problem with PC is simple, it usually takes the form of censorship, plain and simple. Censorship of that kind should not be tolerated. PC does not want the truth to be told. The only way to fix problems is to put them up to light, not to bury them in some veneer. Many of those that profess PC would not like their views or underlying goals to be put out in the open. Besides, PC is amorphous and as such, changes depending on which group promulgates it.

Take the recent event, the bombing of the WTC. It is PC for those groups that like the event. I strong disagree with the methods and the results of that form of PC. Do you? Then why promulgate PC? Each form of PC is different. Why is any one better than another? Strip away the polite veneer of PC and call the underlying philosophy by what it really is. Then people can argue the merits and demerits of it. You may not like the forms it takes and most others would not, if called by a more descriptive name.
