Razorbak, Re: <<Pardon me for jumpin' in here, but gimme a friggen break. When you prosecute a war, you have to have political support at home, and those comments were geared to generating that support. Bush's ad-libbed "I can hear you... " soundbite atop the rubble of the WTC was probably Bush's grandest moment so far in terms of galvanizing support from both the educated and working classes.>>

It's a lot like preaching to the choir. We just lost over 5,000 dead, all innocent non-combatants. Galvanizing support right now, at home, from working classes or professionals is the least of his problems. Galvanizing support in nations like France, Germany, Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria ..... IS THE PROBLEM. Maintaining support at home as casualties may mount IS THE PROBLEM. Statements that indicate that we may overreact do not help that cause. Statements that indicate that we are acting with wisdom and careful thought to secure justice, do. Ed

Well pardon a foreigner, living close to the border, with probably as vested an interest in the outcome as any American, for jumpin' in but I I agree with you. I think Bush is surprising a lot of people ( I know he positively surprising me).

Like that saying goes.
" There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet".
seems to apply so so far. - William F. Halsey
