Acceptance is all well and good, Dave, but we need to realize that even among our own society, and even among us WASPS, the tolerance is sometimes only skin deep. I was heartened last Tuesday and Wednesday by the pulling together of Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives, all as Americans. I really hoped we would not get to finger pointing for, oh, maybe a week or so. Well, it was only took until Thursday on the 700 Club for Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson (mostly Falwell) to intimate in the strongest terms that we liberal, ACLU supporting, prayer in school opposing types had caused God to "remove his shield of protection" from America. I was disgusted. It took Jerry five days to apologize for his "insensitivity". Fine. It was an emotional time. But it worries me how quickly our own clerics can begin to proclaim reasons for God's actions in destroying 5,000 lives. A little more tolerance on this end is needed before we can look outside and deal with the troubles ahead in a truly united manner. JMHO
