One thing that may not have already been mentioned about the browser temporary files is that you can control the amount of disk space allotted to the temporary files. On IE6 it's tools/internet options/General Under the Temporary Internet Files click on Settings.

Setting this to a lower number can keep these files from chronically using a big chunk of disk space.
