"I think Bush's voice is directed at the American public and the more measured tone of Powell and Cheney behind the scenes is, and will be, what the European and Middle Eastern ears listen to."

The headline on almost EVERY paper in the UK yesterday was "Wanted: Dead or Alive" and pictures of Bush and bin Laden.

Powell first and foremost is a military man from the Vietnam era and a New Yorker. He grew up in Queens and graduated from City University of New York before his military career. Revenge and retribution could weight very heavily on his mind. He has to walk a fine line of orchestrating a complex diplomatic initiatives against a very very small minority of Muslims around the world without causing greater instability in the Islamic countries he is requesting to take strong punitive action. If millions of Muslims risk their limited freedoms in the Arabic countries by protesting an active military action against bin Ladem, these leaders may back off from supporting the US to the degree required. It is a difficult task indeed that will take some time. I see less military action and much more covert action like Columbia and Peru.

RE the market, the WTC attack is slowly becoming a recovering wound that still bothers us every day but is not the gaping whole in our side that paralyzed us last week.

I see the market quickly getting back to the basics like how's the economy doing. People will fly again and they seem to be buying a lot of life insurance. The big question is
Has unemployment risen too high to quickly to not drag the market lower.

Still watching BKX. If it doesn't close above 800 this week I am expecting more pain to come.
