America September 19, 2001 (TOKYO) -- The 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8 products) for large-volume users dropped below US$2 in North America. The European and Asian markets may soon follow suit. According to a worldwide DRAM price survey conducted by ICIS-LOR based in London, Houston, and Singapore, the 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAM (PC133, 16M x 8) through Aug. 31, 2001 (Aug. 2-31, 2001) for large-volume users were US$1.98 in North America, US$2.21 in Europe, and US$2.12 in Asia. Compared with the previous week (the 30-day rolling average prices through Aug. 24, 2001), the prices fell by 4.27 percent in North America, 4.04 percent in Europe, and 4.90 percent in Asia. As for memory module prices, the spot prices for 128MB DIMMs (PC133) fell from the previous week by 2.94 percent to US$13.06 in North America, 1.85 percent to US$13.68 in Europe, and also 1.35 percent to US$12.49 in Asia. In Korea, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. decided that its pilot production lines for 300mm wafers would be kept as they are until the latter half of next year. Under the current conditions of the DRAM oversupply, the start of new production lines is seen accompanied with high risks, but in the long term, it will bring about production at lower cost than the present production lines.
