Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear. --- Thomas Jefferson 1743 To which I responded in part.....Interesting quote from T.J.. Pure reason is just a rabbit pulled out of a hat, if it has no ultimate foundation. He says "GOD.... MUST" If God isn't, then there is no "MUST" is there? Jefferson had no basis for saying "all men are created equal" it was, and is not "self evident". That is a concept that he stole from Theism, specifically Christian Theism. He sneaks in a creator by the back door while simultaneously questioning His existence. If no "Creator" exists then Who is it that created us equally? Reason, unless it is undergirded and informed by God's, self revealing, cannot provide a sufficient basis for morality. Words like good and evil are just words. The people who committed these acts are convinced that it is we who are evil and they who are good. It seems to me, that you have no way of refuting them from a relativistic viewpoint. I have no problem with your wanting to question the existence of God, however, I think your conclusions have less to do with reason and more to do with emotion, and a desire to avoid being held morally accountable, but that's just my opinion. One day we will both be dead and then we will hear "the envelope please" Truth will prevail, but it won't be yours, or mine, it will be God's Truth. What do you think Bill?
