Gary, >Tony, Re: FWIW, CNBC is reporting that Afghanistan has declared a Holy War on the US, and stocks are selling on that news.

>>And who do they think they are ? It gives US every reason to bomb them. And I am quite surprised to see the stocks being sold on that news. If it is Russia that may have some merit.

Probably everyone on the planet is very jittery at this point, stockholders being among the most trigger happy, I'm sure. Any threatening news can cause selling pressure. Next thing CNN had was that Cuba is blasting the US for threatening Afghanistan. Probably the best thing to do is to turn the damn TV off! OTOH, have to stay tuned because who knows what might happen next? I can say, with the benefit of having been around for a while and lived through it, that this is the scariest time since at least the Cuban missile crisis. Never went down into an underground bomb shelter, but I remember them.

If it is the news that I think I heard, then it is false alarm. There was a high ranking "spritual leader" who said something along those lines. But it was very quickly overturned by the rest of the the Taliban as saying that (a) he had no authority to make that call and that (b) what he meant was that *if* Afghanistan is attacked there will be a holy war. Now if this dumb news is the cause of the sell off, then I'm happy to buy at these levels. But if there is something else going on that we'll find out a week from now, ...
