The security and well-being of the country is of paramount
importance. The President's job is to advance this goal.
The President's safety, in AF1, escorted by the USAF,
over our own soil, could hardly be more secure. Being
sent to Nebraska instead of going to our nation's capital
sent the unfortunate message that terrorists can chase us
around our own country.

> 1) You are smarter than him and his advisors.
I have to believe that President Bush' first instinct
was to return to Washington. That instinct seems to
be conferred upon all Presidents in the Oath of Office.
Show the flag, lead a nation. Cheney sent him off to
Nebraska - obviously everything was well under control
in the bunker under the WH - and that was a mistake.
The symbolism of a President going to Washington is
important, and President Bush should have overruled them.
The backpedalling in the WH in the days following tacitly
recognizes that they made a misjudgment.

> 2)President Bush is not a leader, ...
President Bush is learning and adapting, but he's
no Reagan, he's no Kennedy, and he's no Clinton.
But he is our President, and we all wish him to do
well. And I wish him to do better.

> ... but a coward.
All of you seem to bring up this word, easily and
even flippantly. I've never used it, nor would
I think of using it with regard to the President.
While I might believe that President Bush is not
the brightest star in the firmament, this word
does not apply to him. Y'all need to move on.

> Something like 87% of Americans think GWB is doing
> great job.
Of course. We all want him to succeed, and he must.
This country always rallies in a crisis, and it always
rallies to its President. Polls are meaningless, and
especially in the heat of a crisis. Take a poll
immediately after the attack and Afghanistan would still
be glowing, innocents along with the evildoers.
Polls don't lead.

Ain't touchin' that one.
