who have traveled outside the US, how are we perceived by other nations and cultures in regard to the above statement?

jealous of our financial success, hate our throwing money around and increasing their inflation while they have to pinch pennies and secretly desiring to be here and share in our wealth. But until they get here we are 'ugly americans' who flaunt their riches.

Paul,

how are we perceived by other nations and cultures in regard to the above statement?

Most people of the world do not have time to discuss politics; their main concern is hand to mouth. When I say most, I do mean the majority of the people on the planet. The ones you meet along the way are very nice and are interested in what it is like here. People are basically the same all over; most want peace and happiness and live their lives accordingly. It is a very few people who cause problems. I view the worlds population very similar to the bell curve. Most of the people(the meaty part of the curve) simply want to have a family, take care of their kids, and strive for happiness. And then you have the outliers, those who do not have any sense of what is right or wrong, and unfortunately all too often they come to power because of this fact and then do even more damage. In addition, these are the ones who most often make the news. We should not watch the people on television burning American flags and extrapolate that "this is how it is." It simply is not so. The nightly news reports report only anomalies of human behavior; if this behavior were normal human behavior it would not make it onto the news. You never see the Billions of people simply trying peacefully to make a better life for themselves.

Regards,

Brian
