PCSTEL, they already gas the planes coming to NZ. They do that to kill illegal invaders. They used to walk down the cabin spraying the insecticide, but people complained so now they do it through the air supply and nobody knows. Aircrew complain though and claim it's detrimental to their health.

I agree with you that the wild west obsession with firing guns is passe. There are sophisticated ways of doing things now and sleeping gas is much better than exciting stuff like swinging axes, turning the plane upside down or having F16s shoot the plane down.

Personally, I think airline security can be downgraded now, rather than increased. There isn't going to be a successful hijacking now because even without sleeping gas, most passengers would simply swamp the hijackers by weight of numbers, swinging duty free bottles of booze or anything else they could lay their hands on.

Mqurice
