How the plane groundings may affect Intel and AMD. This one has more detail that the ones I've seen before on the subject.

Don't know if this has been posted already. If so, apologies.

"This small interruption will be covered by the Q4 and should not worry investors. In fact, investors should note that Intel already uses cargo flights exclusively, and so will not be impacted by the suspension of cargo flown in passenger jets - a problem competitor AMD [AMD:NYSE] now faces."

"The real development for Intel will be the reduced consumer demand in Q4 for computers, digital cameras, MP3 devices, and other electronics, all of which use Intel microprocessors and/or flash memory."

"Certainly investors were already expecting a weak Q4; this will only exacerbate that weakness ... likely to continue through the first two quarters of 2002, and possibly beyond may be offset by a resurgence of the communications market ... helped by a greater need for remote communications systems in an air-travel-averse environment."

BTW, I had some spare change in my broker's account, so I grabbed some AMD at $9.00. I just mailed out another check to them, so I'll soon be buying more into the market (likely AMD or INTC, but I'm always thinking about SSTI, and I'm going to try to figure out the odds of PALM or HAND resurging, as they've gone down a strong amount in the past coupla months.
