Pat:
I have pulled in whatever short stubs of horns remaining and gone into a chicken mode. Just trying to hold on.
My previous comment that if the Dow dropped below 9000 we ( the economy and investor confidence)are in deep trouble the Fed would do everything in its power ( which goes far beyond cutting rates) to put things on an even keel.
This attack against humanity has changed everything overnight We are now all Americans first, there are no more Democrats , Republications, Jews, or Wops, and newscasters will find there are severe penalties for continuing to question our governments actions with unproven allegations of misconduct or elucidating red herring trails saying Muslin terrorists were not responsible- 19 space aliens ( with Muslin ? names) did it.
Any politicians rushing to Washington or lobbying to make sure they get their" fair share" of lucrative pork
without making some sacrifice in prices or salaries to support our war effort will risk public condemnation
and meet resistance. In my book, the first ones to make this mistake will be lobbyists for the pilots unions and airlines if they do not define how they will economise or contribute.
Fed efforts to prop up the markets and economy have been put on the back burner and now have secondary priority. But I trust they are wide awake to formulate some solutions pronto. Congress has loosened the purse strings and will do so further but it will take some time to implement an effective solution and decide where to funnel the funds.
I expect they will be very busy this weekend, and there is severe pressure to produce a plan or specify a monetary solution and would expect some recovery or stabilization in the markets at the beginning of the week.
( always hopeful here)
There was great fear for years on the part of many during the the cold war, with people moving out of cities or building bomb shelters and putting entire factories underground. But the markets survived and prospered.
The world will not soon forget this new threat and civilized nations are adamant in eliminating the advocates of terrorism. The Taliban had the wrong response !!!. We cannot risk an unstable regime obtaining control of Pakistans neuclear capabilites and it becomes crystal clear why Saddam had to be stopped in his tracks and
the markets again survived that war.
So to buy Dell Leaps now ??? I cant recommend yes or no, but there are far riskier investments and Dell has the best survival platform for difficult times of any company I am familiar with.
Regards
Sig
